Management
Nitec is managed by a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team with a broad range of industry relevant experience. Nitec’s management have particular expertise in sales & marketing, research and development and finance, gained with global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. The management team has direct experience managing global brands and has been responsible for significant global product launches and product development programs.
Anders Härfstrand MD, PhD, became CEO of Nitec in August 2007. Most recently he was Senior Executive Vice President at Serono International. Until April 2005, Dr. Härfstrand was Executive Vice President and member of the board of directors of Pfizer Japan with responsibility for ophthalmology, endocrinology, oncology, diversified products and business development. Dr. Härfstrand’s pharmaceutical career began 1988 with Pharmacia AB in Sweden, during which time he built global brands such as Genotropin and Xalatan and was Vice President, Country Operations, Global Prescription Business when he left in 2003. In 1983, he graduated in medicine from the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden and practiced medicine as well as lectured in neuropharmacology and histology before entering the pharmaceutical industry. Dr. Härfstrand also completed a PhD in neuropharmacology at the Karolinska Institutet in 1987. Dr. Härfstrand has been Chairman of Xanthius Pharmaceuticals Inc, NJ, USA since 2005 and serves on the board of directors for Schweizerhall Holding AG, Basel and OphthalmoPharma AG, Sarnen/Switzerland. Dr. Härfstrand is a Swedish national and resident of Switzerland.
Jochen Mattis, is Executive Vice President Marketing & Sales / Business Development of Nitec and Co-Founder of the Company. Prior to co-founding Nitec, he held a variety of positions in the marketing and sales departments at Merck KGaA. As Head of the Cardiovascular, Diabetes, Corticoid, Antibiotics and Opioids Department at Merck KGaA, he was involved in the launch of various measures of product life-cycle management. He holds a degree in Geology from the Justus-Liebig Universität, Gießen/Germany. Mr. Mattis is a German national and resident in Switzerland.
Achim Schäffler PhD, is Executive Vice President R&D / Technical Operations of Nitec and co-founder of the Company. Prior to co-founding Nitec, Dr. Schäffler held a variety of product development posts at Merck KGaA over a period of approximately 14 years. His last position with Merck KGaA was Head of Global Pharmaceutical Development with development centers in Germany, France and in the UK. Dr. Schäffler started his career at Schwarz Pharma AG. He was involved in the development of New Molecular Entities and life-cycle products in the pharmaceutical industry. He studied pharmacy (1983-1988) at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt/Germany, followed by a PhD in pharmaceutical technology (1988-1990) at the Ruprecht Karls University in Heidelberg/Germany. Dr. Schäffler is a German national and resident in Germany.
Andrea Buscaglia, Chief Financial Officer, joined Nitec in September 2007. Prior to that, he had worked since 2000 at the Geneva-based biotech company Serono (now part of the Merck KGaA Group), initially as Vice President Corporate Finance and later as Vice President Corporate Development within Business Development. Between 1992 and 2000, Mr. Buscaglia worked as an investment banker with S.G.Warburg (now UBS AG), Deutsche Bank and Citigroup in London and Milan. Between 1988 and 1992, he was an auditor with the Italian office of Arthur Andersen & Co. Mr. Buscaglia graduated from the Bocconi University in Milan/Italy in 1987 with a degree in Business Administration. Mr. Buscaglia is an Italian national and resident in Switzerland.
